NDI: Bringing Light to Lives Recruitment

In 2009, Nusantara Development Initiative embarked on Project SaCH, a community service project in a rural Aceh village that focuses on improving sanitation and hygiene awareness.

This year, NDI second project focuses on the introduction of solar powered lamps to a rural village in Indonesia. In places where electricity is scarce, expensive and inconsistent, ‘free lighting’ has been proven to aid economic development and contribute to a better quality of life. Thus, a small, one off investment of a solar-powered lamp can generate a longer term benefit.

There are numerous possibilities to integrate this idea with a microcredit scheme for villagers who may not be able to afford the solar powered lamps, as well as creating a mini library powered by these solar lamps, hence making it accessible at night. This project is envisioned to be the first phase in NDI’s 3-year developmental scheme.

NDI welcome participants from all nationalities, disciplines and backgrounds, as long as you are passionate in development work. Those with environmental engineering (or a related engineering field), economics, finance and accounting and encouraged to apply. If you’d like to sign up and be part of the action, fill out this form.

For more information on NDI and their past project (Project SaCH), visit NDI facebook fanpage.
